Science Issues for Stage 3: based on analysis of science cases, and Technical Plans
- what is required for the TAP (stage 3) meeting
- list of applications/ capabilities needed to meet the two cases in VotcSciStageTwo
- Need to find out when the TAP is and bring the following issues below to them.
- there are a number of capabilities which have recurred - e.g. fit minimisation tool, flux conversio, coverage that need to be addressed.
- otherwise, focus should be on stablising current implementations.
IMF
- Positional search
- Catalogue data selection: through a registry query - in aladin and/or workbench
- Main catalogues required:
- Spitzer is the main catalogue - and we are matching against that with objects from 2MASS, IRAS, IUE
- search catalogues and federate to create a master catalogue
- Conversion of 2MASS from mags to Spitzer fluxes
- could be done with in VOSpec?
- ISSUE: magnitude to flux conversion tool: ESO DS4? TOPCAT?
- ISSUE: Construct SEDs - DS4 ESO? (SpecFIND is only radio)
- Run of MOCASSIN
- ISSUE: integrate MOCASSIN into CEA (DS3?)
- Comparison of observed SED with model
- ISSUE: tool to do chi2 minimisation - DS4 work? (or a specific app for this case from Jeremy Yates)
Clusters
- Positional search: need to be covered by SLOAN + Spitzer
- ISSUE: find me objects of the sky covered by both sloan and spitzer
- Catalogues - sloan and spitzer
- ISSUE: availability of Spitzer catalogues (~600MB/catalogue - SWIRE/per field) - need to get these from IPAC
- Xmatch - AG, STILTS, CDS
- Photometric redshifts
- HyperZ, Bpz, AstroNeural
- ISSUE: AstroNeural in stage 3.
- Random catalogue - need to generate this from a monte carlo simulation
- ISSUE: the 'mask' step may need to be done manually (requires use of MANGLE)
- ISSUE: configure MANGE to run in a workflow
- Object selection - catalogue cut based on selection criteria (Aladin, STILTS)
- Calculate correlation function - use VisIVO
- ISSUE: use of VisIVO - reading VOTables in Stage 3.
- 2-d fit - data vs model
- ISSUE: tool to do chi2 minimisation (note relationship of errors) - DS4 TOPCAT work?

- AstroGrid - minimisation tool important
- INAF - model data interface > generate the mocassin models?
- CDS - x-match tool, integration plastic, DAL std --> coverage : could some extension on the SED work be considered?
- ESO - SED construction - important - and a flux conversion tool?
DS5
- AstroGrid - no plan on the wiki - so hard to comment
- CDS/INAF - could some extension on the SED work be considered?
- ESO - std unit conversion could be interesting - not sure what it is?
DS6
- AstroGrid - Plastic - fucntionality probably ok as is now - make sure it is fully debugged and robust plus documented. k-d trees could be used to index the large cluster catalogues.
- INAF - AstroNeural and VisIVO through plastic? probably through a workflow/CEA
- CDS - footprint work?
