DS6 Stage04 Plan

Listed below are the Stage03 activities of each of the DS6 teams, as presented at the DS6 Planning session of the Stage04 Planning meeting in Strasbourg.

Catania

• Stable, documented release of VisIVO: Windows version (Oct 2006); Linux version; User Guide; Mac version (? requested at IAU meeting).
• Interoperability: complete PLASTICization; complete interaction with Aladin for image visualization.
• VisiVO and the TVO: develop VisIVO database interoperability; implement SNAP protocol for selecting subsets of datasets for visualization; further develop prototype for submission of computational grid tasks.
• Dissemination and related activities: ADASS 2006; paper submitted to special issue of Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience.
• Developing user community: seeking out international teams of astronomers to use VisIVO in their research now.
• Contribute to DS6StudyReport: in particular, to section on VO-enabling visualization software.

CDS

• DAL activities: Extension mechanism appendix; AccessAndViews data model note; upgrade CGPS archive browser; implement extended SIAP in Aladin server; publish FOV note.
• Characterization DM: present attributes status in Moscow; accelerate process towards acceptance as IVOA Recommendation; prototype implementations; assess feasibility of ontology-based VOEvent/Observation matching.
• K-d tree indexing of databases: keep in touch with work on this in Edinburgh.
• PLASTIC: IVOA note to be published; release PLASTIC interface to official version of Aladin; participate in development of standard; work on IDL/PLASTIC interface through IDL/Java bridge.
• Contribute to DS6StudyReport: in particular, to sections on Visualization and Astronomy and VO-enabling visualization software.

Edinburgh

• PLASTIC: publish IVOA note; continue support of development of PLASTICized tools; aid development of related IVOA standard.
• Pilot use of VOTechBroker for data mining: develop application for Kernal Density Estimation using the VOTechBroker (in collaboration with Portsmouth)
• AstroWeka: finish packaging AstroWeka tool; continue assessment of scalability of AstroWeka algorithms
• DS6StudyReport: coordinate report writing (BobMann); contribute to a number of specific sections (BobMann, BrianWalshe, JohnTaylor)

Leeds

• Eirik: complete development of client-side Eirik tool with documentation for delivery to AstroGrid.

Napoli

• Astroneural: continued development and preparation for VO-enabling.
• Contribute to DS6StudyReport: in particular, to sections on Data Mining and Astronomy , DS6 Science Drivers , and VO-enabling Data MIning Software.

Cross-DS activities

• DS6/DS4: coordinated activity with Internatational Theoretical Virtual Observatory group.
