DS5 Stage 5 Plan

Roadmap

The first deliverables for DS5, as stated in the ProjectContract are:

  • DS5-02, due month 30 (september 2007): First Resource Discovery Prototype release to DS2
  • DS5-01, due month 33 (december 2007): Resource Discovery Study Report

Even though these deadlines are technically in stage 06 of the project, some preparatory work must be done during stage 05 in order to deliver products on time. These tasks involve collaboration of all partners.

AstroGrid commitments

T01 VOEventScope

Access VOEvents from VOExplorer. This will be done by registering VOEvent STAP Web Services, and configuring a VOEvent search tab in VOExplorer. The relevant VOEvent packets can be displayed and passed to other VO tools for advanced manipulations.

T02 VOEvent & Characterisation SeRQL queries

Use the characterization data model to find OGLE VOEvents located in the same sky region as a set of 2MASS files. Add additional constraints on other dimensions (time and wavelength).

T03 Registry Ontology

Refine the registry ontology and adapt to Registry 1.0 schema. Explore links that can be done with the ontology of astronomical object types (collaboration with INAF).

ESO commitment

T04 Keyword mapping

Improve the FITS and database adapter in MEx. Expand mapping rules, and enhance the GUI. Provide the tool as a package for small data centers.

INAF commitment

T05 Ontology of astronomical object types

Improvements of the existing ontology: link concepts to usual vocabulary, take into account measurements. Also provide user-friendly GUI for the concept explorer.

Apply the ontology on several SIMBAD4-related use cases.

CDS commitments

T06 UCD-based registry queries

Adapt tool to Registry v1.0 resources and access other registries. Study possible interactions with Astrogrid's RegistryExplorer (e.g. exchange list of relevant Resources).

T07 Data extraction tool

Adapt tool to Registry v1.0 resources. Get feedback on released software and link to other VO applications (e.g. SED construction tool with DS4).

T08 Object names recognition

Improve performances of the tool. Validation by experts, and evaluation of the benefits (time saved compared to other methods). Investigate new features, and possible applications/extensions of the tool.

T05 Ontology of astronomical object types

Contribution to T05 by SebastienDerriere, in collaboration with INAF.

Cross-DS issues

With DS4 (DS4 task 11)

  • SED construction

CDS will identify the most frequently used photometric systems/filters in Vizier catalogues. Additional metadata will be added to associate information to the data. This will allow SED-worthy Vizier output for SED construction in DS4 tools.

With DS6

  • VOEvent and characterization
