VOEvent Ontology Queries, ElizabethAuden

Science Cases

  • Solar: query solar VOEvent packets accessed through VOEvent broker and using remote "rdfstore" instead of local instance file for SPARQL queries.
  • Astro: explore feasibility of querying a remote store of astronomical VOEvents and use the Characterization data model to find matching observations. Once that is established, try the other way: query a remote store of observations and use the VOEvent ontology to find matching events.

Stage 4 Development

  • Rdfstore: automatically transform remote VOEvent packets (either on the fly or once and store) and access through rdfstore in SPARQL queries.
  • SPARQL: expand types of queries that can be performed (currently can query on dates, matching strings, and greater than / less than for numbers: no additional functionality beyond XQuery yet)
  • Quaestor: query multiple ontologies in the same knowledgebase
  • Ontologies: build Characterization DM ontology (done) and event type ontology. Add inferences to VOEvent 1.1 and STC 1.3 ontologies. Integrate UCD (subset) ontology?

Follow-up of work done in Stage03: Improvements to MEx FITS keyword mapping utility

  • Provide a mapping definition builder (user friendly, validating, reusable)
  • Better unit conversion support (collaboration with CDS)
  • Test on external data (collaboration with AstroGrid)
  • Link to VOSpace

CDS commitments

UCD-based registry queries

Follow-up of work done in Stage03: Locate relevant resources in the VO Registry using UCDs.

  • Upgrade the registry query tool when VOResource 1.0-based registries are available.
  • Use UCD1+ for queries
  • Apply queries to AstroGrid registry

Homogenized data retrieval

Follow-up of work done in Stage03: Extract homogenized data coming from various tables/catalogues.

  • Write documentation on the tool
  • Release alpha version as VO Application
  • Improve characterization management (cross-DS with DS6)

Link between homogenized data retrieval and SED construction

New: identify needs to build SEDs not restricted to the radio domain.

  • Identify requirements and already existing/missing elements
  • Cross-DS with DS4 and IVOA Source Catalogue Data Model

Object Names recognition

Follow-up of work done in Stage03: Automated extraction of astronomical object names from PDF articles.

  • Improve handling of special cases in the Dictionary of Nomenclature
  • Improve regular expressions extraction
  • Find best compromise between completeness and reliability
