Description of Tasks

01. User Tool Study Report

This is the report of the Design Study 4 User Tools. It covers the efforts in the period from Jan 1st, 2005 until March 31st, 2007. The current draft needs to be finalized as discussed at the project meeting in March 2007. Deadline: June 2007.

02. Best Fitting Tool

Refactor based on feedback as, for instance, the SED construction effort.

03. Adopting Taverna

• Integrate AR with REFLEX
• High level plugins

04. Topcat enhancements

• error bars
• improved visualization features

05. AR enhancements

Track protocol and service spec. changes, add new functionality as required

06. PLASTIC improvements

• Add new PLASTIC messages to handle resources
• Add handlers for new messages to S/W components

07. PLASTIC for ESO Archive

Adding PLASTIC support to the new ESO archive interface.

08. Disseminate VO Tools through Scisoft

The ESO Scisoft Release V7 will include a set of VO tools.

09. Support EURO-VO Workshop 06/2007

The documentation of tools and best practice (recipes) is another dissemination task.

10. Prototype SIA/SSA/VOSPace service for 3D data

The setup of an experimental service for VLT SINFONI data cubes will continue. This includes a cutout server for slicing cubes in Euro3D format into either 2d images or 1d spectra. The original cubes will be stored on a VOSpace node which will also serve as a reference implementation of the relevant IVOA standard.

11. SED construction

Work continues by gathering filter curves and photometric systems for the most popular observation modes and catalogs and by making them available in a SSA type fashion. CDS will identify the most popular resources as part of their DS5 work. See also the cross DS SED construction proposal (.pdf).

12. Simple footprint description (FoV)

• Publication of the IVOA note in April
• Presentation at next Interop meeting in May
• Tutorial at Euro-VO Workshop at ESAC End of June
• Facilitate take-up of standard at the IVOA level.

CDS will develop a footprint graphical editor and ESO will set up a footprint augmented service. Facilitate take-up of standard at the IVOA level.

13. Positional index for VizieR

1st implementation and performance test in stage 5 (high priority).

14. Cross-match Web service

• Distribute task on a cluster of PCs to improve scalability and performance
• Follow UWS for REST document
• Provide a SOAP layer to submit a xmatch job and retrieve the results
• Implement xmatch with error ellipses
• Improve documentation, error reporting

15. Aladin plugins

• Study the possibility of writing Aladin plugins in IDL
  • Test and report on IDL Export bridge (allows to expose IDL objects to Java applications)
• Develop plugins for
  • Querying any VizieR table with a list of position
  • Querying Simbad with a list of position
• (Semi-)automatically calibrating image astrometry (follow-up)

16. TVO DBs and Web Portals

• DBs enrichment with cosmological data incl. production of data through SNAP via GRID infrastructure
• new DB for stellar evolution simulations; storage option for new simulations (in conjunction with VO-DCA WP5)
• data upload facility, content management system (user admin, site management)
• study integration of DBs with similar cosmology simulations
• study how to attach virtual telescope tool

17. TVO Tools and Web Portals

• web portal enhancement: docs, refs & links, user registration
• VOTable: adopt for theory data incl. UCD assignment
