Description of Tasks
01. User Tool Study Report
The
DS4 study report about new user tools is the main deliverable.
The aim of the DS4 user tool study report is to summarize the work throughout the project in general, to describe the resulting tool designs and implementations as well as to give recommendations to potential users and developers.
After sketching the content the project partners will be requested to report on their respective activities by Jan. 2007 and where it will be edited by the study lead for review by the TAP in 02/2007.
02. Best Fitting Tool
Initial implementation of a tool for calculating fits between calculated spectral models and observed SED data.
03. Positional index for VizieR
Build a positional index as required for efficient cross-matching between
VizieR tables and for building density maps.
04. Xmatch tool
Create Web Service version of Aladin's positional cross-match tools. Increase its visibility to users and allow more flexible utilization by 3rd party tools.
05. Managing data staging in Aladin
Adding support for asynchronous services to Aladin requires a data staging capability, a shopping basket functionality and a VOSpace interface.
06. WCS information in JPEG header
Study the possibility of writing WCS information in JPEG headers. This allows bundling the astrometry with quick-look images. Add support for creation and display of such JPEG images to Aladin.
07. (Semi-)automatic astrometric (re)calibration.
Use case: Automatically calibrate image using a reference image and/or catalogue.
Add this method to Aladin complementing the existing functionality for fixing WCS headers by manipulation parameters or anchoring the against reference catalogues.
Test scenarios incl. source extraction, multiple parings and Chi2 minimization
08. Simple footprint description (FoV)
Develop a graphical Fov editor. It will stimulate and facilitate take-up of footprint description format. Finalize
IVOA note on the format with samples.
09. SED construction
Two prone approach across DS boundaries and partners:
- Standardization (of input): transmission curve, zero point, photom. system, etc.
- SED Builder (generic workflow): requires x-match, phys. unit conv., extraction, etc.
10. WCS2FOV Library
Adopt and/or write FITS manipulation library which turns world coordinate system (WCS) information into a instrumental footprint description suitable for visual browsing. The output format of this library will be compliant to the
IVOA specification in task no. 8. This will allow to attach instrumental footprints in SIA query results using the DAL query response extension mechanism proposed by
Bonnarel et al. .
11. Prototype SIA/SSA service to 3D data
Build experimental service at ESO for VLT SINFONI data cubes. This includes a cutout server for slicing cubes in Euro3D format into either 2d images or 1d spectra. The original cubes will be stored on a VOSpace node which will also serve as an reference implementation of the relevant
IVOA standard.
12. TVO data model
Continue development of data model for theoretical VO (TVO) with strong interaction and feedback with
IVOA Theory IG, Data Model WG as well as the semantics WG regarding new UCD definitions.
13. ITVO web service prototype
Continue development of Simple Numerical Access Protocol (SNAP). Implement beta version of SNAP supporting the ITVO multilayer/evolutional DB. Use standard VObs Client (
VisiVo, Aladin,
AstroScope, VOplot, ...) to extract and display results.
14. Virtual Telescope prototype as a ITVO client
Implement a Virtual Telescope prototype incl. a SNAP prototype to view hydrodynamic simulations as Chandra observations.
15. TOPCAT enhancements
Visualisation (error bars, higher dimensional visualisation) and improved PLASTIC user interface.
16. Query builder (in workbench & AR)
Develop functioning Query Builder which uses the new ADQL parser (see 12) for at least one of its views. Include a metadata chooser for selecting
tables and columns from registry metadata (this is continuing development). Rationalize the views by providing a single combined tree and ADQL/s editor view.
17. RegistryScope? (in workbench)
Prepare preliminary designs. Upgrade to prefuse beta, the precursor to implementing registryscope, incorporating it in Workbench in the second half of the stage. Use it and the existing caching registry client to produce a working registryscope prototype in workbench.
18. General AR enhancements
Undertake general AR enhancments including:
- refining functionality (DAL access that matches VOClient)
- bug fixing
- improved documentation, website
- mailing list, etc.
- address myspace access problems
