Description of Tasks and Deliverables
positional VizieR index
Building a general index by position for all VizieR tables. It will be used in stage 3 to build a catalogue footprint service and a VizieR cross-match service.
binary data support in SAVOT VOTable library
Support of binary data will be added to the SAVOT VOTable parser.
study on Aladin to IDL interface
Assessment of possible interaction between Aladin and IDL and how VO tools interact with generic tools from the outside world. This item was triggered by strong pressure from scientists.
improved colour image manipulation in Aladin
Development related to color images in Aladin. Augment color image to a full entity. This includes the capability to save color planes created through the RGB widget while preserving the astrometry. Conversion from colour images to grey scales will be supported.
improved simple footprint previewing
Improvement of the FOV specification in collaboration with ESO and STScI. Test in SIAP extension and provide simple footprint coverage maps for ESO archive.
SIA: improved WCS support for graphic files
Building on the stage 1 prototype service the improvement will include the
transition from UCD to UCD+ and the inclusion of further ESO preview images.
requirements for multi-waveband image tool
Requirement document for tool able to build SEDs from both image data and catalogues.
SSA: design ranking algorithm
The
IVOA Simple Spectrum Access Protocol introduces the concept of a scroing mechanism to rank matching records by relevance. The purpose of this item is to investigate possible probabilistic scoring mechanisms for database query results and to implement a prototype ranking algorithm in stage 3.
data model for theoretical VO
Coordinate with
IVOA Theory IG for the definition of a draft data model for theoretical VO archives allowing easy interaction with observed data.
study to identify applications in Theory VO
Identify public applications, e.g. for best fitting, or proprietary application that is user's own
program (DS6 interaction).
study processing environments
Study the optimal processing environment and best interaction with it:
workflow study, grid interaction (DS3 interaction).
AstroScope
Provide a service to perform dynamic discovery of data available for further processing via a VO interface. This service adds value and interoperates with the
NVO provided Datascope service.
Colour Cutter
Purpose: This tool allows you to select lists of objects (either from
catalogues or extracted directly from images) based on their colours,
for example to select brown dwarf candidates with (J-K)> 1.4 and (I-z)> 2.4
Geoeffectiveness of CMEs
Purpose: Link solar, interplanetary and geomagnetic data into a workflow
that investigates which Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) produce geomagnetic
storms at the Earth, and how the solar wind magnetic field and plasma
parameters influence this process.
GouldBelt
Purpose: Identification of the component parts of the Gould Belt using
existing multiwavelength catalogues. This will form the basis of
pointing position data for a future survey of Star Formation in the
local Solar Neighbourhood.
Redshift Maker
Purpose: To derive photometric redshifts from optical imaging data.
Movie Maker
Purpose: Service to allow a user to make a movie of solar images by
means of a simple interface.
